From Global Partnership to Indigenous Powerhouse
CIHP was established in 2010 as part of a global movement to transfer donor-supported health program management to local indigenous institutions.
ICAP at Columbia University Footprint
Before CIHP’s formal establishment, operations functioned under ICAP at Columbia University (formerly the International Center for AIDS Care and Treatment Programs) in Nigeria, building clinical infrastructure, training healthcare workers, and expanding PEPFAR-funded HIV/AIDS interventions.
Establishment of CIHP as an Indigenous NGO
In 2010, CIHP transitioned directly from ICAP to become a fully registered indigenous Nigerian non-profit organization. Dr. Bolanle Oyeledun, former ICAP Country Director, led the newly autonomous organization to foster local ownership, enhance funding stewardship, and strengthen sustainable health delivery.
Expansion Across 20 Nigerian States
CIHP expanded its technical portfolio from HIV/AIDS prevention to comprehensive Maternal & Child Health (RMNCH), Tuberculosis control, laboratory networks, and digital health surveillance. The organization secured and successfully administered major multi-year grants from PEPFAR (via the CDC), European Union (EU), GAVI (The Vaccine Alliance), The Global Fund, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Catalytic Innovation & Multi-Country Leadership
In 2025/2026, CIHP launched the flagship REACHOUT Project (funded by the European Union / EDCTP3 in consortium across Italy, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Rwanda, and Kenya), the IMPAACT4HIV Project (funded by Unitaid for pediatric AHD & TB care), the AEARI Project (scaling PPH E-MOTIVE bundles across Lagos State), and its 4th Gates Foundation Award strengthening newborn care units nationwide—while advancing a 3-year strategic ambition to establish 5 Pan-African operational footholds.
